Specializing In Daylilies And Hostas

Sarah & Steve ZolockThis is the 51th year of the “Zolock Gardens”. The gardens cover almost 3 acres with flowers, lawns, and the 100 year old White Oak trees that add that special heritage touch to the gardens. Attached to the same limb of one of the Oaks can be found the steel rope swing with its wooden seat that four generations of families have enjoyed. Beneath this same spreading Oak is an omni stone patio and on the adjacent hillside can be found a water garden with two water falls and a thousand gallon pond with water lilies and Japanese Koi. Two gazebos, one pergola covered with grapes, and a very large cast metal bell decorate the gardens.

The gardens began fifty years ago with a simple “Clothes Line” garden. The gardens have changed and grown over the years, but the “Clothes line” garden is still our favorite. The “Zolock Gardens” have over sixty smaller gardens that now contain over 2,000 different varieties of daylilies and over 950 different varities of hosta. Annuals are also used in our daylily and hosta gardens to accent and give the gardens a longer bloom season. The unique feature of many of the flower gardens is the Liriope edging border. Flowers can be found somewhere in the gardens all year long - from the spring bulbs to the Christmas rose of winter. Each garden is designed a little different. Many of the gardens have walks through them - so the flowers can be viewed from different directions. The gardens were granted American Hemerocallis Society display garden status in 2001.

The “Zolock Gardens” began hybridizing daylilies and hosta on 1996. We have now registered 68 new daylilies and 17 new hosta. Our daylily and hosta gardens contain thousands of new seedlings. During our bloom season in July visitors can see 500 of our best selected seedlings in one garden. We love to have visitors come to visit our “labor of love” gardens - this gives us a few moments to rest and relax. Please call or e-mail if you are interested in visiting our gardens so we can provide directions.

Our goal at the “Zolock Gardens” is to hybridize and grow daylilies and hosta that have good substance, are hardy, and flower over a long period. The foundation for our work and success rests upon the efforts of others through their work, encouragement and advice. Mother Teresa from Calcutta, India says it best:

“What I do - you cannot do. What you do - I cannot do. But together we are doing something beautiful for God.”

Sincerely,
Steve and Sarah Zolock
